Thibaut Courtois, the 19-year-old Chelsea goal keeper on loan to Atletico Madrid, revealed he was extremely pleased with the move from the English Premier League side to the La Liga outfit. The http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Belgium-c2850 youngster said he was looking forward to remaining with
Atletico for a year or two and the challenge of securing a place in the starting XI.
Courtois said while speaking to reporters:
“I'm very excited. I have to work very hard to show that I'm capable of winning the trust of the coach.
I would like to stay here. I want to focus on having a good season and then it would be great to stay two or three years here.”
The Belgian goal keeper said he was aware a tough challenge awaited him in Spain, with Atletico Madrid already having a supple supply of goal keepers much more experienced and talented than him. Courtois insisted he was not worried about the competition;
in fact he was relishing the chance to prove himself at Atletico Madrid.
Courtois continued:
“Having competition in goal is good because it makes everyone one of us give their best.”
Like Courtois, Atletico Madrid have recently brought in two additional young goal keepers; http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Sergio-Asenjo-c33042. Robles is a product of the Atletico Madrid youth academy, graduating to the Atletico B squad in 2009, the same year he signed a contract
extension which will keep him at the club until 2014.
The http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Spain-c3011 under-21 international; made his debut for Atletico Madrid in the Europa League and so far has only made two appearances for the club.
Asenjo joined Atletico Madrid in the summer of 2009 for a fee of €5 million on a four year contract from Valladolid. While he started off as the first choice keeper, a string of bad performances lost him his place to http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/David-de-Gea-c10463, who has now joined English
Premier League giants Manchester United.
Having made 15 appearances for the club, Asenjo was loaned out to Malaga, where he picked up an injury and was sidelined for the remainder of the season.
The three young goal keepers will have to be at their best if they wish to earn a place in the starting lineup. Courtois remained confident of his chances and mentioned how he hoped to be like his role models.
Courtois revealed he looked up to Real Madrid and Spain international goal keeper http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Iker-Casillas-c16815 and recently retired Manchester United stopper Edwin Van der Sar. The youngster said he admired the top goal keepers and wished to follow in their footsteps to
establish himself as a world class stopper. Courtois said:
“I've always had two role models in my career. One is (Iker) Casillas and the other is (Edwin) Van der Sar. I think that I have a style similar to his.”
