Chelsea goalkeeper Petr Cech defends http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Fernando-Torres-c13707 after 3-1 loss to Manchester United
http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Chelsea-c38786 first choice goalkeeper, revealed he was certain striker Fernando Torres would further improve after his excellent performance against Manchester United over the weekend. Even though the Blues suffered a 3-1 loss to the Red Devils
at Old Trafford on Sunday, the 27-year-old Spaniard was in terrific form and went on to grab a consolation goal for the London side.
Torres’ goal against Manchester United means he has now scored two goals since joining the Blues in the winter transfer window of 2011 from http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Liverpool-c39809 for a record breaking fee of £50 million. While the Spain international was in terrific form, he lacked
confidence because of which he missed plenty of opportunities to score more goals, missing out on the opportunity to score a hat-trick against Manchester United.
However, Cech believed Torres was finally on the road to rediscovering his form and goal-scoring abilities, which would make him one of the most feared strikers in the English Premier League. The http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Czech-Republic-c2882 international admitted that even though the
former Liverpool man had missed important goal-scoring opportunities during the match, there were positives he could take from the defeat to the Red Devils.
Cech said in an interview:
“This is one thing in football that happens and what he can remember is he played really well and scored a great goal.
I can see every time the guy is improving.”
In his first full season with Chelsea, Cech revealed he had noticed an overall improvement in Torres since the latter half of last season. In their opening English Premier League game against Stoke City, Torres was undoubtedly the best player for the Blues,
but unfortunately for him, he was unable to find the back of the net and Chelsea had to settle for a goal-less draw.
He continued:
“The last match, he created both goals against Bayer Leverkusen and against United he created a huge chance for Ramires in the first half, which if he'd left for http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Daniel-Sturridge-c10076, it would have been a simple tap-in.”
There were a lot of missed chances for Chelsea against Manchester United and not all of them were by Torres, with http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Ramires-c30523 missing a perfect chance to bury the ball in the back of the net. However, Cech was certain the Blues, including Torres, would improve
on their finishing. Despite the criticism the http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Spain-c3011 striker has received, Cech said he was not worried about Torres scoring after his last few performances.
Cech said:
“Everybody is counting goals with strikers and it is always like that.”
As with all strikers, they are sometimes unfairly criticized if they are going through a goal drought. Cech insisted Torres was an important part of the squad even if was not scoring goals. The Spaniard has proved he is capable of providing assists, as he
did in the UEFA Champions League clash against Bayer Leverkusen, setting up goals for both http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/David-Luiz-c10542 and Juan Mata.
