Chelsea goalkeeper Petr Cech revealed he was certain the Blues had managed to get back in the title race with their 2-1 win over Manchester City at Stamford Bridge on Monday night. According to the 29-year-old, the title race was wide open and the title
was anyone’s for the taking.
Before going into the match Chelsea were ten points behind Manchester City, but are currently just seven points behind the league leaders. Cech was proud of his side for making sure they didn’t fall too far behind the league leaders.
The Blues not only won the fixture against City and claimed all three points; they also successfully ended Manchester City’s unbeaten start to the Premier League. They now don’t seem to be as invincible, giving other side’s belief that they are indeed beatable.
Cech said on his official website:
“We have cut the gap on City down to seven points, so we are back in the title race. We are five points behind United and I think we have put some pressure on both Manchester clubs.”
The former Rennes man was certain that if Manchester City had won and extended the point gap to 13, it would have been really difficult for the Blues to remain in the title race. However, with their win, they have ensured the title race is once again open.
He revealed:
“It was an extremely important match for us and we needed to win it. Had we lost we would have been 13 points behind City and that would have been too much. Seven points looks a lot different to 13.”

“I hope so. The most important thing is that we did not break down after going behind against City. That will help us psychologically.”
