Chelsea goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois extends loan stay at Atletico Madrid

Thibaut Courtois, the Chelsea goalkeeper currently on loan to Atletico Madrid, will be spending another season on loan with the Europa League champions.
The La Liga side have confirmed they will be retaining the services of the 20-year-old http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Belgium-c2850 international after a highly successful season. Since joining Atletico Madrid, the young stopper has gone on to feature in 37 matches in the league.
Courtois was loaned out to Atletico Madrid immediately after signing for the London side in the summer transfer window of 2011. It took the Blues goalkeeper very little time to establish himself as the number one at the club, as they went on to claim the Europa League trophy and fifth place in the Primera Division.
Atletico Madrid released an official statement, confirming the news:
“Thibaut Courtois will next season play at Atletico Madrid after Atletico on Wednesday reached an agreement with Chelsea on transfer for a year.
The Belgian international goalkeeper played all of last season on loan playing in 37 games in La Liga and 15 in the UEFA Europa League - a competition won in Bucharest on May 9.”
Courtois began his career as a left back with Bilzen V.V., a local side and went on to join http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Racing-c40298 Genk in 1999 where he was trained to be a goalkeeper. He went on to remain with their youth side up until 2009, after which he made his debut for the senior side.
The Belgian stopper played a key role in his side finishing first in the Belgian Pro League in the 2010-2011 season along with being given the Goalkeeper of the Year and Genk’s Player of the Year awards. However, after having achieved all he thought he could stay with Genk, Courtois decided on a move away.

When he does finally return to Stamford Bridge, he can be expected to replace the http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Czech-Republic-c2882 international, after sufficient experience with a top side like Atletico Madrid.
