Chelsea hoping to get key players back in action
Chelsea FC are hoping to get their fringe players back to 1st team action.
Captain John Terry and Vice-captain Frank Lampard are close to making full recoveries from their injuries, while Michael Essien will be back after serving a 3-match suspension.
Regarded as the “heart and soul” of Chelsea, The Blues have sorely missed their English duo in recent matches. The attack has lacked creativity and the defence has leaked needless goals in their absence.
Chelsea have only scored 4 points from a possible 15, in their last 5 English Premier League matches. This poor run of form has seen them lose the top position to archrivals and title challengers Manchester United.
Meanwhile, defender Alex will leave England for Brazil, to get a pending knee surgery. Terry, who is expected to start training with the first team on Tuesday, will step in his usual position.
Manager Carlo Ancelotti was pleased on the return of his players.
He said, “We hope to recover Terry because he is an important player for us and he is our captain. It will be important for us to have him in our next game. Terry and Lampard are very important players, not just as technical players
but also because they have personality and character and at this moment we need to have this kind of player at our disposal.”
Carlo called upon his players to show a positive response after their dismal performances in recent matches.
He added, “It is important we get a response from my players. This is an opportunity to show our character, to show our personality. Maybe it could be a good motivation to do better. In four games away we scored one goal so we
have to do better there. Now is not a good moment, obviously. We are not interested in what happens off the field. We have to stay focused on our training and our matches.”
Ancelotti is under heavy pressure to turn Chelsea’s results quickly, or else, it is believed, he will be shown the door by club owner Roman Abramovich.
The next few matches will be the most crucial ones for The Blues’, as the results from these matches could make or break their season. The champions face Everton FC at home, before travelling to White Hart Lane to meet Tottenham
Hotspur. Chelsea, will then host Manchester United at Stamford Bridge, before making a trip to Emirates Stadium to play Arsenal FC.
