Chelsea injury Worries & Carlo Ancelotti setting his sights on Europe
English Premier League champions, Chelsea after an impressive first game in the new season are believed to be hampered by a couple of injury worries. Chelsea won their first game of the new campaign with an impressive score line of 6-0 against West Bromwich Albion. Didier Drogba, who won the golden boot last season, was on fire once again. The Ivorian scored a hat trick for the blues and English midfielder Frank Lampard continued his consistent goal scoring run for the club with a goal in the first game.
The duo however did look uncomfortable after the match, and both are believed to be doubtful for the next match on Saturday against Wigan Athletic.
The Ivory Coast Captain, Didier Drogba went through a surgery just before the start of the season for his hernia problem, and also had a metal piece in his arm following an elbow surgery that he had to undergo before the World Cup in South Africa. After the match Drogba said that he still felt pain in his arm and has not fully recovered from the fracture in his elbow. He said even though it is improving but while going for a ball in the air he still feels apprehensive about using his arms. He added that it will take some more time to heal 100 percent, but he said that this is part of the game at the highest level and he will have to get used to it.
Meanwhile Frank Lampard suffered a minor ankle problem, while playing for England midweek against Hungary. He said that his ankle still felt a bit sore but not bad enough to keep him off the pitch, and added that he should be fit in time for the next match.
Chelsea Manager Carlo Ancelotti said that the minor injury to 2 of his main players is a worry, but added that neither of them is of a serious nature. The Italian added that he expects both of them to be fit in time for the match against Wigan, but added that even if they do not it will not be such a big issue and there is enough depth in the squad.
The former AC Milan manager said that winning the league last season was by no way the final product of his plans for the club. Ancelotti added that he has long term plans for the club, and his main focus this season is no doubt retaining the League title. He said that during his time at AC Milan he learned a lot about the European game and won multiple Champions League titles. Ancelotti went on to say that he wants to instil the same mentality at Chelsea and take them to glory in Europe. Ancelotti went on to say that the squad that he has at disposal possesses some of the best in the business and there is no reason why they will not be able to be the best in Europe.
Carlo Ancelotti, who was in charge of AC Milan when they beat Liverpool in the final of Champions league in 2007, said that it is a matter of European culture and given the past record of Chelsea they lack that for now. He said that when he joined the club the board made it clear that domestic success is not the only thing on the agenda and he was aware of the requirements of the job before taking it on.
