Chelsea interested in 21 year old Breno
It has been reported that Chelsea are interested in signing Vinicius Borges Breno, the Bayern Munchen centre back. The Blues are said to already have made inquiries about bringing the 21 year old Brazilian defender to Stamford Bridge as early as this January.
The youngster, who stands 6.14 ft tall, has made about 13 appearances for Bayern since joining the German side. He made a move from Sao Paolo FC in 2007 for a reported fee of €13.86 million. He spent last season loaned out to FC Nurnberg, where he made an
appearance in the first team seven times.
Breno has an impressive international record. The 21 year old has captained the Brazil U-23 squad and is considered an emerging star. He possesses qualities and maturity well above his age. He is strong and is excellent at reading the game, a skill which
is very useful.
The Brazilian youngster has technical skills, which are most useful when he sprints from defense and goes forward for the attack. He has an exceptional right foot and has the ability to score off of set pieces. Apart from that, his leadership qualities are
impressive for someone his age.
His contract with the German side expires in 2012, and without talks of signing a new contract, Breno will be free to go elsewhere. It is expected that Breno will be looking to move away from the German side to somewhere where he will get more first team
opportunities.
That is exactly what he will expect to receive at Stamford Bridge with the Blues, who are having a slight issue with their defense. John Terry and co. are excellent defenders, no doubt about that, but Ancelotti’s side are of the older generation and younger
replacements need to be brought in.
In the weekend 2-0 loss to Liverpool, many would argue that it was Chelsea’s defense that gave away goals that cost them the match. Replacements would be welcomed, especially since there was no one brought in after Ricardo Carvalho followed Jose Mourinho
to Real Madrid.
Breno is a perfect example of what Chelsea need in the upcoming January transfer window, the player has shown that he has the potential to be moulded into one of the best central defenders in the World. If he arrives at Chelsea, Ancelotti will have options
when his first choice defenders are injured.
