Chelsea join the race to sign Balotelli, Di Santo to go out on Loan
Transfer season is in full flow and it looks like Chelsea have finally decided to add strength to their striking department. After Liverpool made it clear that Fernando Torres was not for sale, Chelsea had to look elsewhere and from the options available they have decided to go for Balotelli.
Although, at the moment Chelsea have a bunch of young players who are in contention to be in the first team squad, it appears the one who was most likely to take the place in the squad, Di Santo, is going to be sent out on loan. The Argentinean spent last season on loan to Blackburn Rovers and this season a host of clubs have lined up to take the tall front-man on loan. Among the options available to Di Santo are the Dutch clubs Feyenoord and F C Twente in the running, whereas from the English Premier League clubs such as Blackburn, Bolton and Birmingham are thought to be interested.
Di Santo is not the only player who may be loaned out before the season starts. Another player likely to be sent out by the club is Scott Sinclair. The Chelsea man has been sent out on loan repeatedly for the past few seasons, after failing to break into the Chelsea starting line-up. It will be good for the young player to go out to a club where he can play in the first team and get some valuable Premier League experience.
Balotelli, meanwhile, now has another club to choose from as he looks to get out of Inter where he has had a very difficult time, both on and off the pitch. The Italian is one of the brightest prospects to come out of Italian football in recent seasons and has the physique and pace to succeed in the Premier League. It looks like Manchester City and Chelsea will go head to head in trying to get the player to sign for them but it remains unclear where he will choose to go.
If Balotelli decides on footballing merits, there really is nothing to debate since Chelsea are an established side, playing in the Champions League. There is also a greater chance of Balotelli getting a run out in the side since Chelsea only have two all out forwards, Nicholas Anelka and Didier Drogba.
Carlo Ancelotti, meanwhile, has been denying rumors linking Didier Drogba and Ashley Cole are going to be moving away from the club. Speaking after the friendly against Ajax in Amsterdam, the Italian was confident both players would be at the club for a long time as they are pivotal to his plans for the upcoming season.
Ancelotti also expressed confidence in his goalkeepers despite Ross Turnbull making a horrendous error against the Dutch club in the game. With Petr Cech’s injury, Chelsea are desperately short of options in the goal but Ancelotti believes that the players he has will be enough to guide the team through a tricky opening of the season.
