Chelsea lead Blackpool 1-0 at half time in EPL match
The English Premier League defending champions continue to hold on to the thin hopes of retaining their title. After beating Manchester United in midweek, they look on course for another win as they ended the first half against Blackpool one goal to the
good.
Chelsea started with a 4-4-2 formation, and it seemed to be working for them. There was a chance for Chelsea early on as http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Fernando-Torres-c13707 at the far post.
The home team was not sitting back and there was a shot on target from Blackpool's http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Petr-Cech-c29837.
Blackpool started to get more of the ball after the first five minutes.  The ball broke to David Carney, who burst into the http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Chelsea-c38786 area, but was muscled off the ball before he could shoot.
The match was really end-to-end in the first 10 minutes. http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Didier-Drogba-c11044 challenged for it. Kingson held on to it at the second attempt, but not before he was well and truly clattered by
Drogba.
Next came the expensive Spaniard Fernando Torres’ turn to burst down the left. His cross was put out for a corner. It was played low to http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Yuri-Zhirkov-c37683, but the Russian's shot was blocked.
The constant pressure from Chelsea finally earned them the opener at the hand of the talismanic captain http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/John-Terry-c18895. It was a cracking header from the Chelsea skipper, who rose above everybody else six yards from the goal to head the ball in, off the corner.
There was almost another goal for Chelsea, who were suddenly swamping their opponents, but Richard Kingson made an athletic one-handed save to deny Jose Bosingwa strike from a wide angle.
Blackpool were struggling to keep hold of the ball. Another surging run down the right carried Jose Bosingwa into the Blackpool area. He stayed on his feet despite a somewhat robust challenge from Stephen Crainey, but in the end, the ball went past the goal
line.
Chelsea continued to dominate the game, and deserved at least one more goal to show for it. The second half should see Blackpool come up with a new plan, or they would be in for a drubbing.
