Chelsea left-back defender Yuri Zhirkov heads towards Russian side FC Anzhi Makhachkala

Tagirbekov said while speaking to reporters:
“Of course, Yuri is a great player. Everybody in the team is very glad that he will join our club.
This transfer will strengthen Anzhi a lot. Zhirkov has already managed to talk to the team's head coach Gadzhi Gadzhiev and practically all the players.”
The Russian outfit have reportedly agreed to pay as much as £13 million to the English Premier League giants for Zhirkov. The move will most likely go through in the upcoming days, which means the Blues will have room for new players in their squad.
It will also give Zhirkov a chance at a fresh start, having not been able to establish himself at Stamford Bridge. Despite being given various opportunities, Zhirkov failed to replace http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Ashley-Cole-c6809 at the left-back position.
It was mostly because of his nagging knee injury, which kept him out for the better part of his two years at Chelsea. Even when he was fully fit, Zhirkov was rarely chosen over Cole and he seems to have decided to part ways with the London club.
The versatile defender c*m midfielder had previously expressed his desire to part ways with the club because of lack of first team playing opportunities. Zhirkov joined Chelsea in the summer of 2009 for an estimated fee of £18 million on a long term four year deal from CSKA Moscow. While he managed to score on his debut for the Blues in a friendly against AC Milan, he was sidelined for the start of the season with a knee injury.

So far he has made just 48 appearances in all competitions and has found the back of the net just once.
