Chelsea legend Gianfranco Zola defends Blues boss Carlo Ancelotti
Former Chelsea player, Gianfranco Zola spoke out on the speculation surrounding Chelsea boss Carlo Ancelotti after the Blues' UEFA Champions League exit to Manchester United, and went on to defend the Italian manager and misfiring striker, http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Fernando-Torres-c13707.
According to popular opinion, it was because of Ancelotti’s choice to start with former http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Didier-Drogba-c11044 that cost them the chance to proceed to the semifinals of the European competition.
There is some truth to that belief, the 27-year-old Spaniard has not yet found his first goal for Chelsea and was unable to do so against Manchester United. It was when the Ivory Coast international, Drogba, was brought on that http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Chelsea-c38786 were put back into
the game.
Drogba scored to equalize and give the Blues some hope, however, it was a case of too little too late and Manchester United went on to score two goals to cruise through to the next round of the competition. The match ended 3-1 on aggregate, adding to an
already disappointing season for the Blues.
Since the Champions League exit, there have been rumours suggesting that Ancelotti is close to a Stamford Bridge exit. This is mostly because of his failure to lead the Blues to any silverware this season, something that does not settle too well with Chelsea
owner Roman Abramovich.
The Russian billionaire is somewhat impulsive when it comes to hiring and sacking managers. Since he took over in 2003, he has had five managers, with most of them being sacked because he was not satisfied with their performance.
Chelsea legend and former West Ham United coach, Zola spoke out in defence of Ancelotti, claiming the manager had done his best for the club but had been somewhat unlucky. Zola revealed he did not believe Ancelotti would ever leave Chelsea unless he was
sacked.
Zola said while speaking to reporters, “As a manager you have to stick to your own ideas and if you know you are doing the best for your team you have to believe in it. I'm 100 per cent sure that Carlo is trying to do the best for the club.”
The former Italian midfielder declared his support for his fellow countryman, “I know Carlo, he has always been a fighter, I'm sure he will be thinking how he can come back stronger, and also I must say he's a manager that for Chelsea has done well very.”
Zola insisted the current Chelsea squad had been brilliant for the past decade and one bad season did not define them. He added,  “All the players at Chelsea deserve respect for what they've done in the past few years, we tend to criticise the moment, but
these players have been for ten years winners.”
