Chelsea looking to offer a player plus cash deal for FC Porto's Alvaro Pereira – Liga Sagres News
English Premier League giants, Chelsea, have reportedly upped their interest in http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/FC-Porto-c39186 star Alvaro Pereira and are willing to offer a player-plus-cash deal in order to secure the services of the Uruguayan.
The Blues have been linked with the defender following his feats in the Copa America and are eyeing the 25-year-old as a potential replacement for the ageing http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Ashley-Cole-c6809.
Alvaro Pereira rose to fame after helping Porto to a quadruple last season and further cemented his position as an elite defender, when he guided http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Uruguay-c3035 to victory in the prestigious Copa America.
With a reputation of being a typical South American wingback, the former http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/CFR-Cluj-c38778 has gained ravenous reviews for his performances, attracting the attention of European heavyweights such Paris Saint-Germain, Liverpool, Arsenal and most notably Chelsea.
The Londoners had been looking to sign the highly-rated left-back for some time now but only lodged a formal bid, when Andre Villas-Boas took over the reins at Stamford Bridge. The Portuguese tactician worked with Pereira at Estadio do Dragao during the
2010/2011 campaign and is known to be an admirer of the player’s abilities.
Villas-Boas is now keen to be reunited with his former defensive stalwart at the helm and is allegedly looking to tempt the Portistas with a player-plus-cash deal.
The proposal is believed to be in the region of €18 million and will include the services of an unnamed player, according to reports.
While Pereira’s agent had recently claimed that his client is happy with his current employers in http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Portugal-c2984, he did reveal that a number of clubs had been looking to sign the Uruguayan International in the summer.
"Until now there has been no contact with us. In fact, I can say more: this time we have no offers from any club for http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Álvaro-Pereira-c5297.
"I can only speak about the present and the truth is that there are no official offers,” Alejandro Savich revealed.
The representative also went on to say that the transfer window is still open and a move for his client could yet materialize.
"He will start training on Wednesday with FC Porto. But the market only closes on August 31 and until then anything can happen.” He concluded.
Chelsea are understood to be the frontrunners in the race to land the former Quilmes man but they will have to fend-off competition from the big-spending, Paris Saint-Germain.
The Parisians have been on an unprecedented spending spree since their take-over by the Qatari Investment Authority. The fallen giants have announced their return to the cream of Europe, ousting their English counterparts in their bid to land the highly
coveted attacking midfielder, http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Javier-Pastore-c18082, from Serie A side Palermo.
While Chelsea do have the spending power to acquire their targets, PSG would easily outbid the London outfit should there be an auction for Alvaro Pereira.
