Chelsea made illegal approach for Alvaro Pereira, says Porto president Pinto da Costa – Report
Porto president http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Álvaro-Pereira-c5297, over the course of the summer transfer window.
Alvaro Pereira, 25, was heavily linked with a move to Stamford Bridge this summer and the presence of his former coach, Andre Villas-Boas, at the helm only heightened the speculation.
The Blues were eyeing the left-back as an immediate replacement for Yuri Zhirkhov, whom they had sold to Anzhi Makhachkala earlier in transfer window. Pereira was also expected to be the long-term solution at Chelsea, as their first choice full-back Ashley
Cole is slowly on the decline.
However, a late bid from Roman Abramovich’s team was thwarted by http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/FC-Porto-c39186, who refused to cash in on their highly coveted asset despite the offer being close to €30 million.
The story does not end there. Estadio do Dragao supremo Nuno Pinto da Costa claims that the proposal made by the Londoners was illegal and the English Premier League outfit did not seek permission from the club to speak to Pereira.
“I had a conversation with Alvaro and he admitted he had been invited by Chelsea, which means they spoke with him without Porto's authorisation,” the Portuguese was quoted as saying.
Da Costa also went to say that their approach was against the rules and regulations laid down by FIFA and but did not state whether he would be reporting Chelsea’s activities to proper authorities, who can take action against them.
While the matter is closed for now, it is not the first time the English club have gotten themselves into this kind of trouble. A few years ago, they completed a controversial transfer for http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Ashley-Cole-c6809 from Arsenal, reportedly without the consent of the Gunners,
for which they were given a hefty £300,000 fine by the FA.
Despite the  disciplinary issues they might now face, Chelsea are expected to keep their hunt to secure the services of Alvaro Pereira alive in the January transfer window, although it is not clear if they will actually negotiate with FC Porto given their
hostility at the moment.
