Chelsea manager Andre Villas-Boas, who was undoubtedly pleased with his side’s 3-1 win over Everton in the English Premier League clash at Stamford Bridge, urged his side to continue taking advantage of slip-ups by the other top teams. Manchester United
failed to secure all three points yesterday when they travelled to Anfield, making it possible for the Blues to catch up with them somewhat.
Everton, who had made it a habit of holding the London side to a draw at the Bridge, stood no chance against a vitalized Chelsea. The Blues managed, admittedly slowly, to break down the Toffees defences, and secure all three points with a win in front of
the home crowd. Villas-Boas urged his team to continue with their winning form, especially with Manchester United facing Manchester City next week.
Villas-Boas said while speaking to reporters:
“Man United got an important point at Anfield but at least it makes us recover some points and get closer to second position.”
Chelsea on the other hand will be taking on newly promoted side Queens Park http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Rangers-c40314, giving them yet another chance to close the gap with the Red Devils. The 33-year-old Portuguese manager was certain his side would be able to close the gap at the top of
the table if they continued with their current form. According to Villas-Boas the Blues could further benefit from slip-ups from the top teams in upcoming fixtures.
He did not however, make too much of the fact that the Blues had managed to maintain a perfect home record since he had taken charge of the club. Villas-Boas maintained it was the club’s responsibility to try and secure a win in all of their matches, especially
the ones at home and having so far achieved that feat, did not consider it anything special.
He revealed:
“We have done nothing else than our responsibilities in winning the games that we have won at home. We have not done anything special.”
Among his signings in the summer transfer window, Juan Mata has proved to be the most successful. The Spanish winger has changed the Chelsea team into a creative, attacking force, the result of which has been highly entertaining wins for the London side.
The Mata inspired win yesterday comes after various other victories where the 23-year-old had a big role to play in earning his side all three points.
Villas-Boas did not necessarily seem to think so, claiming he felt the entire team had as much of a role to play in the win as Mata. He admitted the Spaniard had indeed adjusted quickly with his new teammates, but credited the rest of the players for freeing
themselves and playing in roles they found more comfortable, delivering superb results.
The Blues boss said:
“It's all interrelated with his colleagues.
The talent in this squad is so immense and the technical staff's http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Job-c18684 is just to free the players. When they play with freedom of choice, they can express themselves a little bit better.”
While Everton initially were difficult to break down, the Blues managed to do just fine after they found their opening goal. http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/John-Terry-c18895 scoring his side’s second just
before halftime. Brazilian midfielder http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Ramires-c30523 made it 3-0 to give his side a comfortable lead and Villas-Boas felt it was his side’s patience and persistence that won them the game.
Villas-Boas continued:
“We managed to be very, very patient in our build-up, playing a lot from the back, tiring the strikers of Everton a little bit.”
