Chelsea’s manager, Carlo Ancelotti, has finally disclosed why the Blues performed so poorly this season. According to the manager the key factor behind the team’s poor season was the fact that he had a poor squad.
When saying that the manager was talking about injuries key players suffered this season and the fact that there were no replacements for those individuals was a major set-back this term.
When talking about the situation at hand, the manager is quoted to have said:
"I don't think the squad was good enough this year. At the start of the season, we couldn't have envisaged having very important players out at the same time. We struggled to manage this". Without Frank Lampard, Didier Drogba, http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/John-Terry-c18895
and Alex it was very difficult.
Without Lampard and Drogba in the difficult moment, it was not easy to move on without these kind of players, not just their technical qualities but their personality and character. We missed them in November and December when we didn't play well".
http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Didier-Drogba-c11044 are easily two of the most important players that Chelsea have at the moment. However, with Lampard having missed nearly four months due to a groin injury, the team lacked a serious cutting edge or sense of direction in the
midfield during that time frame.
At the same time Drogba’s fight with Malaria seemed to greatly dampen his career and as a result, the team spent a very crucial part of the season without a leader in the middle of the park and without their best offensive player.
However, the attack was not the only place that the team suffered. Injuries that were picked up by John Terry and Alex resulted in the team having to resort to using http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Paulo-Ferreira-c29445 as their centre back at one point.
Nonetheless, at this point it seems as if anything and everything that Ancelotti is saying is to save his career at the club. The manager has failed to have any impact on the team this season and as a result, the reigning champions of http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/England-c749 are now not
in contention to land a single trophy this season.
It’s a manager’s job to be well aware of what is going on with the club and exactly what’s wrong with it at all times. Which leads us to question, what was Ancelotti thinking in the January transfer window?
Chelsea’s lack of depth would have been present back then as well, however, instead of trying to address this issue and brining in reinforcements to strengthen every aspect of the team, the manager went on to spend a whopping seventy-five million pounds
on just two players.
Out of the two players that were brought in (http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Fernando-Torres-c13707), only Luiz has actually been performing, while Torres seems to be nothing more than a mere statue when he takes to the field.
Had Ancelotti carefully assessed the situation before rushing into the transfer market, then perhaps Chelsea might still be nearing in on some trophy, however, that not being the case, they are now going to have to wait till next season to do it all over
again and hope that nothing goes wrong.
