Chelsea manager Carlo Ancelotti convinced Didier Drogba and Fernando Torres can play together
Chelsea boss Carlo Ancelotti spoke ahead of the crucial clash against Manchester United on the problem of playing Didier Drogba and Fernando Torres together. The Italian manager revealed he was certain the two star strikers could form a successful partnership as he sets to make a decision who to play up front against the Red Devils.
It seems Ancelotti has not yet decided on a striker because the Chelsea boss refused to disclose who he planned to start in the crucial fixture against Manchester United.
Drogba and Torres have played together, in fact the two started alongside Nicolas Anelka in attack when the Spaniard striker made his debut for the Blues against his former side Liverpool.
Even though the partnership didn’t prove to be as fruitful as hoped, the Blues boss insisted the two strikers could play together, he said while speaking to reporters, “They can play together without a problem. We are trying in the training sessions to put them together, they have to improve their combination but they don't have a problem to play.”
So far the former http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Spain-c3011 international failed to perform on more than one occasion when he was picked ahead of Drogba to lead the Blues attack.
Most recently Torres started in the Champions League clash against FC Copenhagen with Nicolas Anelka. Torres failed to find the back of the net as Anelka scored both of the goals to give his side an important win.
However, Ancelotti defended his expensive signing claiming it was only a matter of time before he scored. The Chelsea boss confirmed the World Cup winning striker would be making an appearance against United but did not mention if he would start.
He continued, “He will be involved in the game; I don't know how many minutes. Obviously for a striker to score is very important but above all in the last game we played really well.  He had four opportunities to score in front of the goalkeeper and moved very well for the team. I was really happy about his performance, obviously he was not so happy and would prefer to score, and I think he will score.”
Taking the last few games into account, Ancelotti should consider starting with http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Nicolas-Anelka-c27786 ahead of both Didier Drogba and Fernando Torres. The Frenchman has been in excellent form and has not had any problems partnering either of the two. Not only has he been scoring goals, he has also successfully been acting as the provider for whoever is playing in the central striker role.
However, he has been overshadowed by the tug of war between eager-to-impress-but-falling-short-every-time http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Didier-Drogba-c11044. If Ancelotti wishes to avoid any conflict between the two, he should start with Anelka, with Drogba and Torres both on the bench.
