Chelsea manager Carlo Ancelotti insists his side can overcome Manchester United in the UEFA Champions League
Chelsea boss Carlo Ancelotti is confident that his team has the strength and quality to produce a historic win over Manchester United in the second-leg of the UEFA Champions League quarter-final at Old Trafford.
Ancelotti wants his players to believe that they have what it takes to beat Manchester United in the return-leg despite being defeated at home, in the first-leg.
However, statistics are against Carlo Ancelotti on this very moment, as only two teams in the history of the UEFA Champions League have won the European tie after losing the home leg.
But, Ancelotti is confident that Chelsea could become the third club by knocking Manchester United out of the competition.
http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Chelsea-c38786 manager said, “In Italy, we have a saying. 'If you have two, then you next have three'. They have to truly believe that we can win there. I don't know if they will be able to do this. But, at the start of the game, you have to believe that you can
win.”
Chelsea are now trailing by one goal against Manchester United after Wayne Rooney’s first half striker marked his team’s first ever win at Stamford Bridge since 2002. Sir Alex Ferguson’s men are unbeaten at home in the ongoing season and Carlo Ancelotti
knows that his team would have to climb a mountain in order to triumph at Old Trafford.
The former AC Milan boss also claimed that he would leave no stone unturned to prepare his team for the crucial Old Trafford showdown. The Italian also insisted that he would need to prepare something special to surprise Sir Alex Ferguson in the second leg.
Ancelotti added, “I want to try to do something special for the next game. I have to watch the game and prepare something that we can do to create difficulties. I have to explain to the players the ability of the opposing team.”
However, Manchester United have yet to lose a UEFA Champions tie after winning the first leg and Ancelotti believes that Chelsea would have to produce a spotless performance to end United’s unbeaten home leg streak.
Moreover, Chelsea was also the last team that emerged victors at Old Trafford when they defeated Manchester United by 2-1 last season, which also proved to be a title decider.
Nonetheless, statistics would not matter on the huge night at Old Trafford. All that would count is team’s character and hunger to win the competition. The second-leg of the all-English quarter-final of the UEFA Champions League between Manchester United
and Chelsea will be played on 12th April, 2011.
