Chelsea boss Carlo Ancelotti has claimed that he would have to change his tactics in the upcoming second leg of the UEFA Champions League quarter-final against Manchester United at Old Trafford in order to qualify for the next round of the competition.
Chelsea are trailing by one goal after they were defeated by Manchester United in the first leg of the fixture at Stamford Bridge 1-0. Ancelotti has admitted he will change the strategies which will surprise Sir Alex Ferguson.
Ancelotti said, “I have to prepare something we can do to create difficulties. I want to try to do something special for the next game.”
The Chelsea manager has admitted that it would be hard to claim a victory at Manchester United’s home, as they are unbeaten at Old Trafford in the ongoing 2010-11 season.
However, Ancelotti believes that his team has what it takes to triumph at Old Trafford and wants his players to give their best performance in the second leg.
Ancelotti added, “To win there you have to do 100 per cent in everything. You have to use personality, courage and you have to control the game. Obviously, they have the advantage and will try to use counter-attack, to defend well. They are a fantastic defence
doing a fantastic job. So it will not be easy to score but we have 90 minutes to try to do it.”
Even though the statistics are against Chelsea ahead of the Old Trafford showdown as no team has ever triumphed at Manchester United’s home, Carlo Ancelotti is confident that his team has the strength and quality to knock United out of the competition.
Moreover, Chelsea were also the last team that defeated Sir Alex Ferguson’s men at their home in the Premier League in the 2009-10 season. However, United have never lost a Champions League tie after winning the first leg.
Nonetheless, it will be a huge night for the future of both clubs and the winner of this crucial all-English Champions League quarter-final will surely become the favourites to win the elite European competition.
