Chelsea manager Carlo Ancelotti reiterates; Chelsea not desperate to sign in players
The manager of Stamford Bridge Carlo Ancelotti has stated that the club is not running around frantically in search of players to sign in this summer. He has repeated his previous claims that the club is not as fraught as media has portrayed them but instead they could defend their Premier League title with the present team if they wanted to.
He explained that his statements were just to give the critics an idea of how strong a team they were and to make them recognize the level of their abilities. His statements come after the unfolding scenario which suggests that the Blues might not be getting their desired players this summer after all.
The manager disclosed that they indeed had been unsuccessful in their attempts to sign the players they wanted this summer so far. So far they have only signed in Yossi Benayoun from Liverpool for 5 million pounds and that just would not be enough to fill up the space left by Michael Ballack, Juliano Belletti and Joe Cole; who were earlier refused a renewal of contract and they all then switched to new clubs.
Apart from that there are players from the Blues that are moving on loan while some have demanded a transfer, like the Brazilian born Portuguese Deco. Chelsea themselves have been trying to attract a couple of players to their club but so far other clubs have been more successful in doing that, especially Real Madrid. Under the new manager Jose Mourinho, who has bid on the clubs’ top players, Ashley Cole, Frank Lampard and Didier Drogba, he has left the London club in a tough spot.
The Blues were attempting to lure in the coveted Spanish striker Fernando Torres but what seemed to be a certain move to either Manchester City or Chelsea has dulled after the new Liverpool manager Roy Hodgson has announced that El Nino has informed the Englishman that he is looking forward to play for Liverpool this season. However the matter has not been finalized as there have no press releases or statements by Torres yet.
In an attempt to disguise the disappointment faced by the Blues, their Italian manager has stated that the club had not bid on Inter Milan’s striker Mario Balotelli. The Italian striker who is considered to among the best young players in the world is heading off to Manchester City. Ancelotti has now denied that he had any intentions of bringing “Super Mario” to Stamford Bridge in the coming season.
Balotelli is now about to arrive at Manchester City stopping at last the speculation of his arrival in to other top clubs in the world. He was linked with Manchester United earlier; as a matter of fact he snubbed a larger salary at Old Trafford to join his former coach Roberto Mancini at the Citizens. On the other hand Ancelotti has relayed that their lack of signings are mostly because of bad luck though.
Nevertheless their Chief Executive Ron Gourlay has stated that he and the Chelsea board will be delivering him with enough funds so that he can revamp his team and win the Champions League title this time.
On the Balotelli issue Ancelotti has expressed, “This doesn't result with me. City have spent the most in Europe and they will be fighting for the title. Mario is a crazy talent, but the Premier League is ideal for him”. He added, “He will find Roberto Mancini, the coach that launched him in Serie A”.
Apart from defending the Premier League Hodgson collaborated that he had big plans this season especially in the Champions League. He told that last year though they had an early exit to Inter Milan, who eventually won the Championship, he told that this time over they should be prepared for the onslaught the men from Stamford Bridge were bringing.
He ended with saying, “My first impact with Chelsea was winning the league, the FA Cup and Community Shield. I am missing the Champions League, that is my dream”.
