Chelsea manager, Carlo Ancelotti, wants his side to beat Manchester United in their next English Premier League fixture at Old Trafford in order to retain their English Premier League crown.
The last round of matches saw the Red Devils’ lead at the top of the EPL table reduced to three points, as they were defeated 1-0 by Arsenal at the Emirates stadium. The Blues, meanwhile, collected maximum points by beating fellow Londoners, Tottenham Hotspur.
The race to the Premier League title is increasingly likely to go down to the wire with three games still remaining for the Red Devils and the Blues.
It has been a remarkable turn for events for the Pensioners; they were running the risk of not qualifying for UEFA Champions League but a Purple patch has seen the Londoners collect 25 points from the last 27 on offer, bringing them back into title contention.
Ancelotti maintains that United are still the favourites to win the Premier League, however, the Blues still need to defeat the Red Devils in their next game to have a realistic chance of winning the Premier League title for the second successive season.
The Italian manager said, “You need to use character and personality to play this match (Manchester United vs. Chelsea). Both teams have that, but it is the momentum."
Furthermore, the Italian praised the fighting spirit of his players as despite their UEFA Champions League exit at the hands of United, they have returned to winging ways. The manager added that now is a good time to play against the Red Devils.
He said, “It is the best moment to play there because now our condition is good and the momentum is also. “
The 51-year-old expects a difficult game against United and thinks they two teams are evenly matched.
He added, “Obviously it will not be easy to play there. I don't think we are better (than United). I think we have the same power, the same strength, the same ability."
It will be interesting to see which team comes on top in the mouth-watering scheduled for May 8, 2011.
