Chelsea manager Carlo Ancelotti wants his players to believe in themselves – Champions League news
http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Chelsea-c38786 manager Carlo Ancelotti has urged his players to have belief in themselves that they can play better football than Manchester United and can win.
Chelsea will host first of the two-legged quarter-final of the UEFA Champions League against the Red Devils at Stamford Bridge on Wednesday, 6 April, 2011.
Ancelotti’s side enjoys a perfect record against Sir Alex Ferguson’s men but the Italian believes that it is a new game and anything can happen.
“It doesn't matter if I have a good record in the past with Manchester United, I want to be focused on the next game; tomorrow will be a different history. We know we must play against a fantastic team but we have confidence to do our best. It will be different
because we have to play 180 minutes,” said Ancelotti.
He added, “Obviously we want to start well tomorrow but we have to know that everything will be decided at Old Trafford. Nothing will be decided tomorrow. We are focused, concentrated and we want to move on. If we believe we can play better than Manchester
United then we can win.”
The current Premier League Champions’ only hope of winning silverware in the ongoing 2010-11 season rests with their Champions League progress. The former AC Milan manager has trust in his players and he believes that they have the experience and the ability
to win Europe’s elite competition.
The two sides last time met in the final of the Champions League in the 2007-08 season in Moscow and United beat the Blues 6-5 on penalties.
Ancelotti said that Chelsea came extremely close of winning the title before and their past failures will make them stronger to win this time. He added that the players are determined to win the competition, as it is the only thing missing in their trophy
cabinet.
The 51-year-old added that the Champions League is the most important competition in the world and every player and manager dreams to win it.
Ancelotti’s team would be looking to get the best out of this game to take a healthy lead in the second leg.
