Chelsea midfielder Florent Malouda targets late title charge – Premier League news
Chelsea midfielder http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Florent-Malouda-c13838 has claimed that his side is on track to retain their English Premier League title.
The Blues only have five games to play in the ongoing 2010-11 campaign of the Premier League and need to win all of them to defend their title.
Chelsea gave themselves a major boost as they beat Birmingham City 3-1 to collect maximum points whereas Manchester United and Arsenal were restricted to draws against Newcastle United and Tottenham Hotspur respectively.
The victory means that Chelsea have moved second in the Premier League table courtesy a better goal difference than Arsenal. As things stand, the Blues and the Gunners are locked on 64 points whereas the Red Devils top the EPL standings after accumulating
70 points.
Malouda scored twice against Birmingham City and the Frenchman remains confident that his side can keep the Premier League crown at Stamford Bridge. However, the Blues need to win all their remaining EPL fixtures in order to do that.
He told http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Chelsea-c38786’s official website, “The title race is open for the three teams, We have no choice but to win every game to put pressure on Man United. They have to play at Arsenal but we have to play our part by winning our games. We have to stay humble,
we know where we are coming from.”
“We had difficult moments we had to overcome to come back to the second place and now we have to play at our best level. We have to give everything until the end of the season,” added Malouda.
The midfielder maintains that the Red Devils have a difficult run-in to the season as they still have to host Chelsea and travel to Emirates stadium to face third placed Arsenal.
After a bright start to the season, Chelsea suffered a mid-season slump which enabled their rivals to surpass them in the title race. However, the Blues are certainly the in-form team in the Premier League as they have taken 19 points from a possible 21
in their recent fixtures.
Malouda is also delighted with his individual form and claims he is feeling strong mentally and physically. The winger has scored 12 goals in 32 appearances so far.
Chelsea host West Ham United for their next Premier League match on April 23, 2011.
