Chelsea’s midfielder, http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Frank-Lampard-c14097, admitted that his side was lucky to have secured a 2-1 win over derby rivals, Tottenham Hotspurs, at Stamford Bridge over the weekend on 30th April.
It was the 32-year-old midfielder who found the equalizer for the Blues after Sandro put Spurs in front early in the first half.
However, his goal was highly controversial since the replay revealed the ball was not entirely over the line. It was given though and Lampard admitted his side was lucky to get the goal.
He said that he felt it was payback for the time he was denied in the 2010 World Cup in http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Germany-c2904.
Lampard said, while speaking to reporters, “In those two instances, maybe yes. The one that didn't go over the line, I was due one of those - I had a big one [at the World Cup] in the summer! So I'm pleased with that. But it's unlucky on them”.
While Lampard equalized the score just before halftime, striker, http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Salomon-Kalou-c32266, scored the winner for the Blues. It was later claimed that the Ivory Coast striker was offside and that the goal should not have been allowed.
The referee did not make the best decisions during the London derby but Lampard was certain that his side deserved to win. He claimed that they had fought hard throughout the match and had kept Spurs under pressure.
The Blues’ midfielder admitted his side had suffered a slump in mid-season which saw them exit all three competitions and drop out of the top three on the Premier League table but now they have returned to top form.
The http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/England-c749 international confessed his disappointment with their earlier performances, saying, “We're fighting to the end. We had a couple of months where we let ourselves down a bit and let it slip, but you saw the character. We deserved it”.
http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Chelsea-c38786 travels to Old Trafford this Sunday, 8th May, to take on league leaders, Manchester United, that is just three points ahead of the Blues.
A win over Sir Alex Ferguson’s side will mean the Blues will be once again at the top of table, level on points but ahead on goal difference.
The Blues’ midfielder said, “They're in the driving seat and it's theirs to lose, but if they do slip up we're in a position now where we'll have a real go to try and do it. We've kept ourselves alive and we can sit back and watch and hope”.
