Chelsea midfielder http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Frank-Lampard-c14097 looking to avenge Champions League injustice
Chelsea midfielder Frank Lampard has urged his teammates to exact revenge for the injustice they feel at having a genuine penalty appeal waved away in the first leg of the Champions League quarter-final tie against Manchester United.
The decision ultimately cost Chelsea the match, as United walked away 1-0 winners on the night.
Manchester United were leading the match with just a few minutes left to play when the controversial incident occurred. Chelsea midfielder http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Ramires-c30523 burst into the United box, and just as he shaped to shoot at goal, he was tumbled
over by defender http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Alberto-c4309 Undiano Mallenco.
Mallenco waved away the penalty appeals and allowed play to go on, much to the chagrin of Chelsea players. Had the decision gone their way, the complexion of the entire quarter-final tie could have been very different indeed. However,
as it stands, Manchester United have a precious away goal to take to Old Trafford, making them favourites to progress to the semi-finals of the Champions League.
http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/England-c749 international claims that his side should have been awarded a spot kick. But Lampard has urged his teammates to use that disappointment
to their advantage. He believes that the Blues will now have extra motivation to get revenge at Old Trafford for the second leg of the contest.
Speaking after the match, Lampard said, “I can't believe he (the referee) didn't give the penalty. We can't really think like that too much because it's negative thoughts. We just use it to motivate us, really.”
He added, “Everyone knows it was a penalty, but he didn't give it - simple as that.”
Lampard admitted that winning at Old Trafford will be difficult, but he believes that his side can pull it off.
Chelsea are currently in fourth place in the Premier League standings.
