Even though London rivals Tottenham Hotspur have shown interest, Essien is unlikely to end up at White Hart Lane.
The player revealed he would consider a move to Italy if a concrete offer was made by either of the two suitors; AC Milan and Juventus.
AC Milan were previously reported to be interested in signing the Blues midfielder to strengthen their squad in the summer transfer window.
However, they have not yet made an official offer because of which the rumour linking Essien to AC Milan remains unconfirmed.
The reason why Essien is considering a move away from Chelsea is the appointment of Andre Villas-Boas as the new http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Chelsea-c38786 manager and the uncertainty he brings with him.
Since his appointment Villas-Boas has not identified his targets for the summer transfer window or his vision for the Chelsea squad in the upcoming season.
That has made things very uncertain for existing players and with the likes of http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Didier-Drogba-c11044 already linked with a move away; other senior players are also considering their options.
As with many other players, Essien is not certain if he will have a guaranteed place in the first team which is why he is thinking about a move away.
The holding midfielder has not been in the best of forms for the last three seasons, mostly due to injury, which is why he has doubts about his involvement next season.
Villas-Boas is set to hold his first official press conference today; it is bound to give some idea as to his plans for the London club.
That would undoubtedly help in determining the future of many of the players at Stamford Bridge, like Michael Essien.
One thing is certain though, if Essien does leave Chelsea, he will be joining a team in http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Friends-football-club-c39381 about his desire to play in the Serie A.
