Chelsea midfielder Michael Essien hopeful about his recovery
http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Ghana-c2905 international picked up the injury during pre-season training and was sidelined with
a long term injury which would see him miss the first half of the new season.
This is not the first time Essien has been ruled out with the same injury, the Ghanaian having previously ruptured his anterior cruciate ligament in the 2008-2009 season. That season saw Essien make just 19 appearances for the Blues in all competitions and
find the back of the net three times.
Like last time, Essien is expected to be sidelined for the better part of the season. The defensive midfielder revealed he was disappointed at having sustained the same injury again but remained positive on his recovery as the operation on his knee had been
successful.
Essien wrote on his official blog:
“The injury is well-documented so I will not dwell on it, however I can say I have had a good operation on my knee and I am definitely on the mend.”
Essien revealed he was currently undergoing strenuous physiotherapy sessions everyday and even though the process was slow, he expected satisfactory results by the end of it. While the midfielder admitted he was not fond of watching the games of television
as he preferred to be with his teammates instead, which is why he was working harder towards recovering.
He continued:
“I prefer to be with my team-mates in training and on the field of play; however I know I have to be patient so I can heal properly.”
Essien’s injury takes an estimated six months to recover and he is expected back in January of next year, but the midfielder failed to give an exact date of his return. Essien revealed his return to the squad depended on how fast he recovered and whether
or not the medical team at the club decided he was fit enough to return.
Essien said:
“I have been asked when I am coming back and at this point in time it's down to how the recovery goes and when I am given the all clear by the medical team.
Sorry I can't be more precise, but it’s too early to give specific dates.”
At the beginning of the transfer window, Essien was initially linked with a move away from the London club. Among many other sides, he was rumoured to be heading towards Serie A giants AC Milan. Unfortunately, he picked up the knee injury and all speculation
regarding a possible move came to an end.
