Chelsea midfielder http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Raul-Meireles-c30678 has revealed he does not intend on commenting on his future at Stamford Bridge before the end of the European Championship.
The http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Spain-c3011 in the semi-finals of the 2012 competition. Meireles said he would decide his club future after the end of the European tournament.
Meireles said in an interview:
“I am focused on the Euros and cannot think about my future now.”
Having begun his career at Boavista in 2001, Meireles transferred to http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/FC-Porto-c39186 in 2004. He remained with the Portuguese giants until 2010, making 138 appearances in the league and scoring 15 goals. It was 2010 that he transferred to English Premier League side Liverpool.
During his time at http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Liverpool-c39809, Meireles made 44 appearances in all competitions and found the back of the net five times along with six assists. Admittedly, scoring goals is not his best quality, but he did well enough for the Reds for them to want to retain his services.
However, it was towards the end of the summer transfer window that Meireles handed in a transfer request which brought an end to his stay at Anfield. He joined http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Chelsea-c38786 on a four year deal for an undisclosed fee which is believed to be an estimated 12 million pounds.
The Blues were in desperate need of a player like Meireles, especially since they had been unable to sign http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Michael-Essien-c25294 had been suffering from an injury, which made him a doubt at the start of the season.
Meireles was brought in under Andre Villas-Boas, who was later sacked as the manager at Stamford Bridge and replaced by http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Roberto-c31294 Di Matteo. The Portuguese midfielder did well under both the managers, with his statistics showing 45 appearances, six goals and six assists in all competitions at the end of the season.
While Meireles earned a suspension for the UEFA Champions League final against Bayern Munich, he received a medal along with the rest of the team for his efforts early on in the competition which had helped the Blues to the final.
