Chelsea must retain Carlo Ancelotti as their manager – English Premier League (Part 1)
As the 2010-2011 Premier League season draws to a close, speculations have began on whether Carlo Ancelotti will be retained as http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Chelsea-c38786’s manager for another season. The Italian manager was equipped with a Chelsea squad this season
which was almost identical to the one that won the 2009-2010 Premier League season. As with all managers at Chelsea, Carlo is living a dangerous life.
The English Premier League title is not seen as an utmost priority at the club as the club’s owner, Roman Abramovich’s focus is on winning the UEFA Champions League more than anything. However, the Russian would do well to realize
that football is not his personal playground and neither is winning the European Cup as easy feat to achieve.
One of the main reasons as to why Ancelotti was brought in to replace Guus Hiddink was his success with A.C Milan in the UEFA Champions League. Ancelotti worked with limited funds at A.C Milan in his last few years at San Siro.
He was never quite successful in domestic terms but the Italian excelled in the UEFA Champions League with an experienced bunch of players. His last European triumph with Milan came in 2007 when the Rossoneri defeated http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Liverpool-c39809 in the UEFA Champions League
finals after besting Manchester United in the semi-finals of the same competition.
Ancelotti has always been regarded as a top notch manager with tremendous tactical http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Skills-c40539. His sides have always been built on two to three offensive minded players. At Milan, Ancelotti’s best squad included the likes of Clarence
Seedorf and Kaka along with Rui http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Costa-c9458 and Shevchenko. This abundance of offensive talent was complimented by a strong defensive line of Paolo Maldini, Jaap Stam and Cafu. At Chelsea, this has not been the case for the former Italian international footballer.
In his first season in London as Chelsea’s manager, Ancelotti was blessed with a side which had the likes of Michael Ballack and http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Ricardo-Carvalho-c30973 were
also a part of this squad as their presence provided the Italian manager to use the full extent of his squad due to their strength in numbers and quality. In the summer transfer window of 2010, when other clubs were busy strengthening their squads in order
to launch a successful 2010-2011 Premier League campaign. Chelsea released some of their key stars.
http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Juliano-Belletti-c19932 were all released or sold out as Chelsea began a massive clear out to reach a balanced wage structure at the club. This decision was also influenced by the
new Premier League squad rules which made it mandatory to include a specific number of home grown players in the squad. All of this worked against Ancelotti. His title winning side was dismantled as Chelsea lost their squad strength. Not only that, the Blues
did not invest in any new talent in the summer transfer window of 2010 accept for their Brazilian midfielder Ramirez. The young playmaker was bought by Chelsea from Benfica.
All of this had an adverse effect on Chelsea’s 2010-2011 Premier League campaign right from the get go and as a result it also had impacted Ancelotti’s standing at the club. This will be explained in the second part of this series...
