Chelsea plan summer spending despite UEFA financial fair play regulations
UEFA has made it clear they will take action against the sides who do not respect the financial fair play regulations. The football administrators were shocked by the deadline day spending by defending English Premier League champions to bring in Fernando
Torres to Stamford Bridge, during the January transfer window. Despite announcing a loss of €83 million during the last year, the Blues went ahead and spent €58.5 million on the former http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Liverpool-c39809 striker alone.
An inside source revealed that UEFA saw the last minute, high priced transfer of Fernando Torres as “a worrying sign” and against their financial fair play regulations. Chelsea owner Roman Abramovich had claimed his big spending days were over and that he
supported the new regulations listed by UEFA. The acquisition of http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/David-Luiz-c10542 suggests otherwise.
The new system set up by UEFA attempts to limit a club’s financial losses to about €45 million over a three year time period. It will be implemented next season, Michel Platini, the UEFA president said while speaking to reporters, “It will be time for them
to face the music if there is a club that doesn't fall in line.” There are serious consequences for clubs that fail to comply with the rules, with a ban from European competitions being the worst one.
Chelsea, one of the clubs to most likely not follow the regulations, have hinted they might be continuing their spending spree in the summer. According to sources close to the club, the £76.5million spent on Torres and Luiz was just a sign of things to come.
Abramovich has apparently already given the go ahead to bring in recruitments which will freshen up the existing ageing squad.
Chelsea sporting director, Frank Arnesen, who is on his way out at the end of the season, stated that the Blues were targeting Gregory van der Wiel, the Ajax right back. Arnesen said Van der Wiel was “on our number one list, but not currently at the top.”
It is understood Chelsea are not satisfied with their options at right back, with http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Paulo-Ferreira-c29445 and Jose Bosingwa most likely to leave during the summer.
Their departure, combined with that of http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Eden-Hazard-c11863, Alexis
Sanchez and http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Chelsea-c38786. A much younger Chelsea.
However, Herman Van Holsbeeck, the Anderlecht general manager, said they had already rejected an offer from the English Premier League giants. The Blues are desperate to land Romelu Lakaku, who has been described as the “new Drogba” but Holsbeeck is determined
to keep him. He said, “Chelsea wanted him this winter but, after consultation with his agent, we decided to decline the offer. He is not ready yet, and we still want to hold on to him for one to two seasons.”
