The London side first showed interest in the Uruguayan international in the January transfer window, when they were uncertain about http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/David-Luiz-c10542.
However, despite the early setback, Chelsea managed to sign the 23-year-old Benfica centre-back Luiz in January for a fee of £23 million.
While the Brazilian youngster proved to be a sufficient addition for the winter transfer window, the Blues are looking to strengthen their squad with another defender.
Godin would make an excellent addition the Chelsea back line, which has not been as effective this last season.
The Atletico Madrid centre back is known to have excellent pace, passing technique and remains calm while on the ball.
Upon learning of the possible Chelsea bid, Godin revealed he would jump at the chance of making a move to the English Premier League side.
He said the only reason he was not allowed to leave the La Liga outfit in the winter transfer window was because too many players were rumoured to be leaving already.
Having achieved more stability at the end of the season, Atletico Madrid are now open to transfers and could agree to selling Godin.
According to sources, Atletico Madrid were expecting up to £12 million for Godin and will gladly accept the £15 million the Blues are reportedly preparing.
Godin said while speaking to reporters:
“In January, Atletico received an offer but the transfer did not happen.
They had already sold other players and did not want to weaken the team further then.”
The http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Uruguay-c3035 international said he had enjoyed his season at Atletico Madrid, having joined the side from Villarreal in 2010, but revealed he was looking forward to a move to Chelsea.
The Blues are undoubtedly one of the biggest clubs in Europe and have some of the best players in the world in their current squad.
While they are yet to win the coveted UEFA Champions League trophy, they have done well to qualify for the European competition season after season.
Godin admitted a move to Stamford Bridge would be a great boost for him and said he was flattered by the interest.
The 25-year-old continued:
“For Chelsea to still be interested in having me is an honour and means I must be playing well.
Who would not want to play there? To do so would be a step up.”
Godin is contracted to Atletico Madrid until the end of the 2014 season, having signed a long-term five year contract with the Spanish side in 2010.
He signed for an estimated £6.6 million and has gone on to make 25 appearances for Madrid in the La Liga this season.
