Chelsea put a £30m price tag on Ashley Cole
Chelsea have indicated that £30m would be required in order for Ashley Cole to be re-united with former Blues boss Jose Mourinho.
The new Real Madrid boss was the man who brought Cole to Chelsea in controversial circumstances four years ago from Arsenal, and has always been an admirer of the England defender whom he described as "the best left-back in the world".
But with Madrid dropping out of the running to sign Liverpool's Steven Gerrard because the asking price was to high, raises doubts to whether the club can afford to pay the asking price.
Independent reports suggest that Chelsea will do anything to keep the 29-year-old unless the player himself makes it clear he wants to leave.
It was reported not so long ago that Cole told friends that he "hates" living in England, following the intense media attention that has followed his very public split from his pop star wife, Cheryl.
Which makes the move to Spain sound much more probable.
Madrid goalkeeper and Spain captain, Iker Casillas, is also confident Cole will join the galacticos.
He said: “A clean break from England is hopefully something he is very interested in. It will be his last big contract and who better to sign for than his old coach Mourinho at Real."
