Chelsea reignite interest in FC Porto's Alvaro Pereira – Primeira Liga News
English Premier League giants, Chelsea, have reignited their interest in FC Porto star Alvaro Pereira. The Blues were close to signing the defender in the summer and are set to resume where they left off in January.
Uruguayan International, http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Álvaro-Pereira-c5297, was one the most sought after players in Liga Sagres during the summer. French side Paris Saint-Germain were hot on the trail of the talented wingback but it was Andre Villas-Boas’ Chelsea, who really expressed an
interest in acquiring his services.
The club’s first choice full-back, http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Ashley-Cole-c6809, had been on the decline and given his ageing limbs he was expected not to last more than 2-3 years. With a sturdy defence being key to a team’s victory, Villas-Boas targeted his former protégée to replace the
Englishman.
Backed by the billions of their Russian owner, Roman Abramovich, the London side reportedly made several offers to their Portuguese counterparts for their star asset, however http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/FC-Porto-c39186 refused to sell.
The Portistas insisted that their coveted player was not going to be sold unless http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Chelsea-c38786 were willing to match their €30 million price tag. But what really soured the transfer saga was the Londoners alleged decision to talk to Pereira without the approval
of Estadio do Dragao officials.
Speaking to reporters, Porto president http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Costa-c9458 claimed that the player had revealed to him about the deal offered by the English club and as he did not permit them to do so, it was against the law.
“I had a conversation with http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Álvaro-c5280 and he admitted he had been invited by Chelsea, which means they spoke with him without Porto's authorization,” the Portuguese said.
While the Premiership giants might be able to overcome the legal procedures to resume their chase of the former CFR Club man, the player’s agent has also commented on earlier occasions that a switch to Stamford Bridge is quite unlikely for his client.
During an interview with the press, the representative said that the Dragons had placed a massive buyout clause on his client’s services and were not willing to lower their evaluation, thus a move was unlikely to happen.
"I do not remember in the history of football left-back a cost that price, on top of an economic environment like we live in and a player who has no EU passport,” Alejandro Savich was quoted as saying.
While FC Porto have again and again reiterated their stance on Alvaro Pereira, Chelsea are still adamant that his future lies in the rigours of the English top-flight.
And given that they have not had the best of starts to the campaign, they will be looking to bolster their squad in all areas of the pitch and the Uruguayan remains a high priority for them.
