English Premier League giants Chelsea have successfully signed http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Valencia-c40863 winger Juan Mata on a long-term five year deal for an estimated fee of £25 million. The 23-year-old Spain international arrives at Stamford Bridge after rejecting offers from the Blue’s
London rivals Tottenham Hotspur and http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Arsenal-c38429, who were both keen to sign the attacking player.
Mata become the fourth signing of the summer for Chelsea manager Andre Villas-Boas, who has so far signed Thibaut Courtois, http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Romelu-Lukaku-c31672. To counter the ageing squad present at Stamford Bridge, the new Chelsea boss has been focusing more
on young players in the current transfer window.
Having finalized the deal, Mata has arrived at Stamford Bridge and has already had his first training session with his new side. The player revealed he was pleased with the training session and that he seemed to get along with his new squad. Villas-Boas
could allow Mata to make his debut as soon as this Saturday when the Blues take on Norwich City at Stamford Bridge.
Mata said while speaking to reporters:
“Right from the first moment there have been good feelings all around me.
Training has been great and the players are a great group to train with.”
Mata revealed that while he considered Valencia to be a big club, he was looking for a new challenge after four seasons with the La Liga side. He said he was looking forward to establishing himself in the English Premier League and helping the Blues win
trophies, having won just the Copa del Rey with Valencia in his first season at the club.
Mata will link up with his http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Liverpool-c39809 striker had played a big role in his move to Chelsea, having convinced Mata that the Blues would be a much better option
for him as compared to the other Premier League sides.
Mata said:
“Fernando got me excited about the thought of coming here.
He said it would be good for me here and that me and him together could be good.”
After Torres’ advice and talks with his friends and family, Mata finally decided on Chelsea. The versatile Spaniard revealed he had spoken to the Chelsea manager, who had told him of his plans for the club and the big part Mata played in them. Impressed
by the young Portuguese manager’s winning spell at http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/FC-Porto-c39186, Mata decided to sign with the Blues.
With the Blues clearly lacking width and creativity in the squad, Mata will undoubtedly prove to be the perfect signing in the current transfer window. With an ability to play on either flank and as an attacking midfielder, Mata said he would not only set
up goals but also try and find the back of the net, something he showed he had a knack for while at Valencia.
He revealed:
“The plan is that I can play on either flank or even in the middle playing in between the lines of midfield and attack.”
In his four seasons at Valencia, Mata made a total of 174 appearances, scored 46 goals and made 45 assists. He revealed he wanted to adapt to English football as soon as possible so he could cement his place in the starting XI. Mata admitted he wanted to
win trophies with the Blues, preferably the English Premier League crown.
The Spaniard concluded:
“I want to adapt as quickly as possible to my new surroundings, my colleagues and this league, and I would love to win a trophy in my first season.”
