http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/England-c749 international insisted his side would come back stronger next season.
The Blues surprised everyone and made a late season surge to challenge Manchester United for the title. From being 15 points the Red Devils in March, Chelsea were just three points behind Sir http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Alex-c4752 Ferguson’s side as they traveled to Old Trafford.
A win at Manchester would have guaranteed the Blues a return at the top of the table, level on points but ahead on goal difference. Unfortunately though for Chelsea, they failed to secure a win or even a draw and ended up with a 2-1 loss.
While the Blues are undoubtedly disappointed at ending up trophy less this season, the Chelsea skipper refused to blame manager Carlo Ancelotti. Terry said he felt the Italian manager and the players had done their best to get to where they were.
Terry said while speaking to reporters, “Credit to our management and the lads for digging in, and the fans as well who have been brilliant all season, because two months ago we didn't look in it at all and we were worrying about qualification for the Champions League.”
They are currently at second place on the Premier League table, with a guaranteed spot in next season’s UEFA Champions League. This is a great improvement from their spot at fifth place some two months ago, when a spot in the top three was the target.
The Blues skipper revealed his side had done well to make it to second place, he said, “Two months ago, you could maybe be happy about where we are now but you look back at the start of the season and you wouldn't be happy.”
However, Terry did admit it was a disappointment compared to last season and the beginning of this season, he continued, “We were in control and then we hit a run of bad form and we couldn't really get out of it quick enough. We dropped points home and away and that proved to be vital.”
There have been countless rumors suggesting an end to Ancelotti’s reign at the Bridge at the end of the season along with an exodus of players. The decision lies entirely with Chelsea owner Roman Abramovich, who is reportedly looking for a replacement for the Italian manager.
The likes of Jose Mourinho, Guus Hiddink, Harry Redknapp, http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Rafael-c30339 Benitez, Pep Guardiola and Andre Villas Boas have all been linked with replacing Ancelotti at the end of the season. The players leaving and arriving at the club will depend on whoever takes over, assuming Ancelotti is removed.
