Chelsea skipper John Terry certain Fernando Torres and David Luiz will improve next season
Chelsea and England http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/John-Terry-c18895 revealed he was optimistic about the upcoming season and the improved form of the January transfer window signings Fernando Torres and David Luiz.
The Blues signed http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Liverpool-c39809 for a record breaking fee of £50 million.
While the 24-year-old Brazilian defender http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/David-Luiz-c10542 arrived at Stamford Bridge from Benfica for a fee of £23 million.
With an overall spending of £73 million during the winter transfer window, the new signings did not have quite the effect Chelsea were hoping for.
Luiz proved to be somewhat of a success, making 12 appearances in the English Premier League and managing to score 2 goals for the Blues.
Torres on the other hand proved to be a flop, finding the back of the net just once in 18 appearances in the Premier League and UEFA Champions League.
However, the http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Chelsea-c38786 centre back insisted he expected both the signings to improve next season and put the disappointing start behind them.
Terry said in an interview:
“We're a great football club, we made two fantastic signings in January in Fernando Torres and David Luiz, and I can't wait to see them both playing for Chelsea when they have a pre-season under their belts.”
Terry was confident the pre-season training and games would help them get used to the pace of the English game.
The Blues are scheduled to go tour Asia and the http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/England-c749 skipper felt it would be a good time for the new signings to get used to the squad.
He continued:
“They've fitted into the squad brilliantly already, but fans in pre-season will hopefully get to see firsthand how well they are doing.
They have really freshened the club up, and hopefully there will be some more new signings by the time we arrive in Asia in July.”
The Blues have currently been linked with the likes of http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Javier-Pastore-c18082.
However, they have been unable to make any new signings since they have not yet found a manager to take over from Carlo Ancelotti.
The Italian was sacked at the end of the season for failing to deliver any silverware, despite leading the Blues to their first ever double just a season before.
While they have been linked with a host of managers, Chelsea have been not been able to convince anyone to take the hot seat at the Bridge.
http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Turkey-c3026 national team manager Guus Hiddink is currently the favourite to return, but no official offer has been made by the London club as yet.
