http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Chelsea-c38786 skipper John Terry feels Blues should spend more to win more
Chelsea and England captain http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/John-Terry-c18895 said he felt his side should spend in the upcoming summer transfer window if they wished to win trophies. With the Blues looking to end the season without any silverware this season, Terry believes some changes are
needed.
The 30-year-old insisted he did not blame manager Carlo Ancelotti for the highly disappointing season, instead he felt the squad lacked depth. Terry compared the current squad to the one during the Mourinho era.
When the Italian manager took over in the summer of 2009, the likes of http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Deco-c10735 parted ways with the London club. Their departure left a gaping hole in the squad, which was not filled.
It was only in his second season at the club, after winning the domestic double, that Ancelotti made his first signings. The former AC Milan manager signed midfielder http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Yossi-Benayoun-c37520 in an attempt strengthen the squad.
While the Brazilian Ramires and former http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Ricardo-Carvalho-c30973 left. The Portuguese centre-back left the London side to join the La Liga giants Real Madrid, where former boss Jose Mourinho was in charge.
Even though Chelsea owner Roman Abramovich splashed some cash in the January transfer window to bring in striker http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/David-Luiz-c10542 for a combined amount of £73 million, it was a case of too little too late.
The Chelsea captain felt the Blues would have had a better chance to compete for trophies if they had an over-all strong squad. For which he was certain more spending was required in the summer, at the end of the season.
Terry said while speaking to reporters, “I always think we should strengthen all over the pitch [in the summer]. I look back when Jose Mourinho was here - we had a very big squad and great players who could come in, but then that brings financial problems
to the club and players become unhappy.”
The Blues centre back said the London side owed their recent success to the Russian billionaire, who had been making generous contributions to the club since he took over in 2003. While he has made some unpopular decisions, Terry did not blame him.
The Chelsea skipper felt reinforcements were required to reassert their dominance, he said, “We lost a lot http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Big-Players-c38635 this year and maybe we needed a bigger squad, but that's no fault of Roman or this football club. What he has done for Chelsea, I couldn't
put into words.”
The http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/England-c749 international said he thought spending on players in the summer transfer window would be a good idea, he continued, “It's very easy for us to say we'd love to see this or that. It is his money and he has dedicated a lot of time and effort, but
I would say we need players.”
