http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Chelsea-c38786 and England captain John Terry revealed he was extremely proud to have reached the 500 appearance mark for the Blues. The 30-year-old made his 500th appearance for Chelsea against Tottenham Hotspur in the London derby on Saturday, which
the Blues went on to win 2-1.
Apart from it being a meaningful match for the Blues skipper, the victory over Harry Redknapp’s side ensured Chelsea’s return to the title race. With just three points behind league leaders Manchester United, Chelsea are once again title contenders.
A win over Manchester United on Sunday at Old Trafford will send the Blues at the top of the Premier League table once again. While they will be level on points with the Red Devils, the goal difference will be sufficient in ensuring they top the league.
Terry, who has been with the club since 1995, revealed he was looking forward to leading his side to a win over Manchester United over the weekend. The Blues skipper revealed he was proud to have been with the London side as long as he had been.
Terry made his debut with the senior side in 1998, after spending 3 years with the youth side. He said while speaking to reporters, “I'm very proud actually. Looking back on it, when I was 17 or 18, when I was on 30-odd games: I never predicted I'd be where
I was today.”
The England centre-back revealed he was on excellent terms with the Chelsea supporters, whom he credited for his success at the club. He revealed he was not ready to retire just yet and intended to see out the remaining three years on his current contract.
Terry went on to say, “I've got a great rapport with the fans – a great relationship with them. I'm delighted to hit 500, and certainly I want many, many more. I've got three years left on my contract, and that's what I aim to do.”
Under the leadership of Terry, the Blues have gone on to win the English Premier League thrice, the FA Cup four times and the Carling Cup and Community Shield twice each. In addition to this, the Englishman has collected various individual awards, making
him the most successful captain for the Blues.
The Chelsea defender continued, “But throughout my career – I've been the most successful captain in Chelsea's history. And for me, when you go down in history at a big club like this, it means an awful lot and it's something I hold dear.”
In his 11th season at Stamford Bridge, John Terry has made 484 appearances for the Blues in all competitions and has gone on to score 42 goals. His leadership qualities and commitment make him one of the best players at the club and truly irreplaceable.
