Chelsea skipper http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Yossi-Benayoun-c37520’s move to Arsenal
http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Luka-Modric-c22857 and Terry said he hoped Meireles would prove to be a successful signing for the London side.
Since the beginning of the summer transfer window Chelsea were desperate to sign the 25-year-old http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Daniel-c9879 Levy did not agree to Modric leaving the club and made sure the move did not go through.
In what was claimed to be a panic buy by the Chelsea manager Andre Villas-Boas, the Blues surprised everyone with the deadline day signing of Meireles. Having secured his services, Terry revealed he had spoken to the Portuguese midfielder’s teammates, who had assured him the 28-year-old was a terrific player and would do really well at his new side.
Terry said in an interview:
“I was surprised. It was very late.
He is a very good player. I spoke to (Liverpool's) http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Stewart-Downing-c34221 and Andy Carroll and they stressed how good he was.
Andre has coached him before. We missed out on the Modric one and he will come in that very similar role so I'm very excited about what's happening at Chelsea with the players we have brought in.”
The Chelsea defender was hopeful that the fact that Villas-Boas had previously coached Meireles before would help him adjust at the Bridge. Along with the other new arrivals; Juan Mata, http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Michael-Essien-c25294 and the departure of Yossi Benayoun.
The former Liverpool midfielder left Chelsea on the deadline day of the transfer window to join the Blues’ London rivals Arsenal on a season long move. Despite having been at Chelsea for just a season, Terry admitted he was sad to see the Israeli leave. Benayoun had picked up an Achilles injury a short while after joining Chelsea from Liverpool, because of which he only made a total of 10 appearances in all competitions while at the club.
Lack of first team opportunities were the main reason why Benayoun agreed on a season long move away from Chelsea. He hopes to get a better chance with http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Arsenal-c38429, who have not been doing too well this season and could use an experienced midfielder like the 31-year-old in their ranks. The Blues skipper wished Benayoun the best and said he hoped the midfielder did well with the Gunners.
The Chelsea skipper continued:
“With the injury he picked up last year, he was quite unfortunate really because I felt as though he had a lot to give to the Chelsea side this year.
Unfortunately he has gone on loan. We all wish him well.
Hopefully he can get the run of games he deserves.”
