Chelsea slip out of English Premier League title race
Chelsea, over the past few months, have indulged in the worst of the workplace sins; slacking on the job. And yet none of the scrutiny seems to be directed at the players, all the attention seems to be perpetuated and aimed towards the manager, Carlo Ancelotti,
or the owner, Roman Abramovic.
Chelsea are on a run of form which could have dire consequences for them. It’s already proved damaging enough with Chelsea slipping 9 points adrift in the title race. They were 7 points clear at one point in the season, but this recent blip has seen them
forfeit their lead and turn it into 5th place in the table. Even as Chelsea slump nine points behind leaders United, The Red Devils still have a game in hand, and that effectively subtracts Chelsea from this season’s title race.
What a shame it has been. They do say the bigger they are, the harder they fall. And Chelsea have indeed fallen the hardest. For a team who were setting the pace at the summit and looked to be running away with the title even before November started, it
is a harsh pill to swallow. And The Blues don’t even have the solace of knowing that they will at least claim a Champions League spot; Manchester City and Tottenham’s emergence has seen to that.
Chelsea’s last two games have seen them slip further behind, albeit in immense drama. First, they were faced by the prospect of facing Aston Villa, a team who are still looking to find their feet this season, at Stamford Bridge. And for the neutral fan,
that game was the perfect antidote to a boring weekend. It had everything; goals, tackles, pressure, last minute drama and intense outpour of emotion.
http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Emile-Heskey-c12468 rose highest to head a whipped cross into
the back of the net. It was 2-1 to Villa and Chelsea looked to be out of it again.
But, Chelsea somehow managed to find it within them to haul themselves back into the game. In the 85th minute, http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/John-Terry-c18895
came forward to volley in with a precise finish. And in that moment emotions ran wild. You could see it on the players' faces, it was like a great burden had been lifted, like they’d accomplished the impossible. It was euphoria that was shared throughout the
ground, by manager, staff and fans alike.
Sadly though, it wasn’t meant to last, as http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Ciaran-Clark-c9247 crept in at the back to nod home a brilliant Mark Albrighton cross. Chelsea had once again self destructed, and it was Villa’s turn to celebrate.
The misery was compounded on the Londoners when http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Wolves-c40952, the bottom of the table team, beat them at The Molineux, thanks to a Jose Bosingwa own goal. That perfectly exemplified Chelsea’s season thus far, laden with disappointment.
Chelsea have of late become a team inept at winning football game. And their prospects have been buried due to that. Now all Chelsea can hope for is to finish in the top four, so that they qualify for the Champions League. Even that isn’t as easy as it used
to be, Manchester City and Tottenham have made sure of that. These are dark times at The Bridge, and they fail to show signs of receding.
