Chelsea star midfielder Frank Lampard to remain with the Blues
Chelsea midfielder http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Frank-Lampard-c14097 revealed he planned to honour his contract with the London side after awarding them a win against Premier League leaders Manchester City. It was Lampard’s penalty that gave Chelsea the crucial 2-1 win over the Citizens at
Stamford Bridge last night.
Even though Lampard started on the bench, he came on to make quite an impact for the Blues, scoring off the spot to guarantee all three points. The Blues were initially lagging behind to Mario Balotelli’s goal, but http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Raul-Meireles-c30678 equalized for Chelsea and
Lampard gave them the win.
Lampard’s future has been in question ever since Andre Villas-Boas was appointed the manager of http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Chelsea-c38786 in the summer. The 33-year-old midfielder has been in and out of the Blues starting XI, but insisted he intended to remain with Chelsea as long as his
contract would permit.
Lampard said while speaking to reporters:
“I want to play and I'm at my best when I play, but now I'm in and out. I'm 33 - I understand that - but I want to keep playing regularly because I know I've got a lot to give.”
The http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/England-c749 international admitted he was glad to have scored off the penalty spot, having missed a penalty a few weeks ago. He found the back of the net, successfully erasing all memories of past misses and played a crucial role in the much needed win for
the London side.
He revealed:
“I went out and missed a penalty a few weeks ago and the next one is always hard to take.
You've got to be big enough and stand up and take them and they're the moments. I was very relieved when it hit the back of the net.”
The midfielder felt the win had been important to make sure the Blues remained in the title race, with Manchester City previously having had a ten point gap. The gap has now been reduced to seven points and helping Chelsea to third place, putting them back
in the title race.
Lampard continued:
“We needed to win to stay in the race. Ten points is a huge gap and luckily we've closed that.”
