Chelsea stars http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/John-Terry-c18895 and Frank Lampard remain confident ahead of the trip to Old Trafford
Chelsea Captain, John Terry and Vice-http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Wayne-Rooney-c36736 scored at Stamford Bridge in the first leg. However, they did not let that dampen their spirits ahead of the crucial clash that could determine their future.
The arrival of Italian manager, Carlo Ancelotti saw Chelsea claim their first ever double - the English Premier League and the FA Cup. His first season with the Blues saw them make and break various records, rendering them as one of the best teams in Europe. In addition to that he inspired a terrific performance from a squad that was labeled as an ageing squad.
However, his second season was not as successful and the Blues suffered their worst slump in over 15 years. They faced early elimination from both the Carling Cup and the FA Cup, also having lost the Community Shield early on. They were also unable to maintain their lead at the top of the English Premier League and are currently at fourth place, barely managing to qualify for next season’s Champions League.
This leaves the UEFA Champions League the only trophy within grasp of the London club. Nevertheless, the fact that Manchester United has the lead with an away goal does not make things any easier for http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Chelsea-c38786. To secure a passage to the semi finals of the Champions League they will have to defeat the Premier League leaders 2-0 at Old Trafford.
The failure to do so will result in a trophy-less season, the first in many years since Russian billionaire took charge of the club. That will surely mean the end of Carlo Ancelotti’s reign at Stamford Bridge, in addition to the departure of coaching staff and players. However, the players are for now, focusing only on the contest that lies ahead.
Chelsea midfielder, Frank Lampard was certain his side could defeat Manchester United at Old Trafford, having previously achieved the feat. He said while speaking to reporters, “We're obviously aware that we can win there. That's been proven not just last year but before. They're a top team and it is a more difficult show than what you'd have wanted after the home game.”
The England International urged his side to believe they were capable of defeating Manchester United. He remained hopeful they would give their best in the second leg, he added, “But we obviously still have to believe. Even if it'd been a draw, we'd have to have gone there and won to make sure we went through.”
http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/England-c749 and Chelsea captain, John Terry agreed with his teammate, he continued, “We're capable, with the squad and the players we have, of going up there and certainly dominating them and getting a win, which they've seen in previous years. Not many teams go to Old Trafford and come away with a win but we're certainly capable of that.”
