Chelsea first choice goalkeeper Petr Cech admitted his protective head-gear could very well have saved him from a serious head injury during the mid-week clash against Fulham in the Carling Cup. The 29-year-old stopper had to be rushed to the hospital after
a clash with Fulham forward http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Orlando-c28664 Sa during the first half, with his injury feared to be as worse as the head injury he had sustained five years ago.
It was during an English Premier League clash against Reading that Cech was knocked out after a collision with Stephen Hunt. The extent of his injury was not made certain until after scans, which revealed the http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Czech-Republic-c2882 international had fractured his
skull. Since then Cech has had to wear a protective helmet, something the goalkeeper felt had saved him from another serious injury.
Cech revealed he had not been able to continue playing after the knock, which is why he had been taken off by manager Andre Villas-Boas. The Blues’ stopper revealed that even though the injury had not been too serious, he had felt it would be best to rest
as a precautionary measure. Especially with his previous head injury, the medical team felt it necessary to bring him for the remainder of the match.
Cech said in an interview:
“My head went back like when you get a right hook in boxing. What happened, I don't know.
I think the helmet took most of the impact.”
He continued:
“There was no way I could continue, although I had played for the last two minutes of the half.
I thought I would be all right but, as soon as I got into the dressing room, it was clear that my head wasn't working the way it should.”
The goalkeeper revealed it was necessary to confirm the extent of the injury before returning back to a match and it was best to rest if the injury sustained was a head injury. However, Cech revealed he had now returned to fitness, having resumed full training
with the rest of the team. The Blues stopper said he expected to play a role for the Blues in the upcoming matches.
Cech revealed:
“I went to hospital and had a scan. With my history, they were not taking any chances. But all was clear and I was able to train on Friday.”
