Chelsea stopper http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Petr-Cech-c29837 blames squad for poor form
http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Chelsea-c38786 goalkeeper Petr Cech refused to blame manager Andre Villas-Boas for the recent poor form the Blues have been. Instead, the 29-year-old felt the team was to blame for the poor performances rather than the manager, who has so far been held responsible
by the English media.
Cech said while speaking to reporters:
“The manager is not on the pitch, we are on the pitch and we are making mistakes. He cannot do anything about individual mistakes while he is standing by the bench.”
Chelsea’s latest defeat came against Bayer Leverkusen in the UEFA Champions’ League group stages, where the Blues gave away a lead to eventually lose 2-1. The loss came after defeats in the English Premier League to the likes of http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Liverpool-c39809.
Cech believed it was the fact the Blues had been lacking defensively and had failed to fix their mistakes, which was the reason for their downward spiral. He urged his side not to waste precious chances and not to concede soft goals, as they had been doing
earlier on.
He revealed:
“We have been talking recently about the same mistakes - concentration and little details when we don't go to clear the ball.”
Cech added:
“I think we need to be much more aggressive in terms of defending.”
The defeat to the German side leaves Chelsea fighting for a place in the next stage of the competition, since they are no longer the obvious choice to make it through past the group stages. Cech felt his side were to blame for that and that they should have
done better earlier.
The Blues stopper admitted:
“We have put ourselves in a difficult situation because we could have had qualification done a month ago but that is the way it is.”
The Blues take on http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Valencia-c40863 in a must win fixture in their next European clash and will be hoping the home advantage helps them get a decent result. Cech felt it was high time his side improved and stopped making silly mistakes which cost them important points.
He continued:
“We are one of the top teams in Europe and this is not a situation we want to be in.”
