http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Petr-Cech-c29837 has insisted that the Blues’ transition period will not be used as an excuse for a trophy-less season especially since they had strengthened the team in the winter transfer window.
The Blues have been bolstered by the arrival of Bolton Wanderers defender http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Michael-Essien-c25294. The two players will be expected to add life to the squad and hopefully aid them in their quest for silverware.
While manager Andre Villas-Boas’ main task was to find long term replacements for the likes of skipper http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Didier-Drogba-c11044, the Portuguese will be expected to bring trophies during the tough process.
Since Russian billionaire Roman Abramovich took over the London club in 2003 the Blues have not gone two successive seasons without winning a trophy. Cech was optimistic Chelsea could rely on the past as well as the strong squad to win trophies this season.
Cech said while speaking to reporters:
“We set a standard in recent years, and that's the way it is at a big club - especially here. We want, ourselves, to win something. We don't want to go another season without trophies, so our aim is to end this season with silverware.
We're doing everything in our power to achieve that, alongside the transformation and transition of the team. I think it will be a good year to build on for the future.”
The http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Czech-Republic-c2882 international believes his club and country are similar in many ways, especially the way they are looking to rebuild the squad for the long term. He admitted it took years to work towards rebuilding the team, but felt it was worth it in
the end since his country had managed to qualify for the upcoming Euros. The Chelsea number one urged fans and players alike to be patient and give Villas-Boas time to work his magic.
He continued:
“We had two generations of players who basically retired at the same time, and it takes time to recover. It took us nearly three years to rebuild the team and now we are grateful that we managed to qualify for the Euros.”
