Chelsea stopper Petr Cech not too concerned with clean sheets, certain of Champions League success
Chelsea goalkeeper http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Petr-Cech-c29837 defended his side’s inability to keep a clean sheet in their recent fixtures, refusing to criticise his teammates for their apparent lack of effort from conceding soft goals. In their last three English Premier League fixtures,
the Blues have managed impressive wins over the likes of http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Everton-c39043, Bolton Wanderers and Swansea City but have failed to keep a clean sheet in all three matches.
Cech, who was once known as the “Clean Sheet King” because of his impressive records, has gone many fixtures, is all competitions without managing to keep the ball from ending up in the back of the net. While the 29-year-old was disappointed, he failed to
be brought down by the recent run. Cech revealed he was certain the Blues would once again return to their former self and maintain clean sheets.
Cech said while speaking to reporters:
“You can see everybody's concentrating and focused on their jobs.
When you concede sometimes, you have to accept that the opponent had a very good chance to score.”
The Blues stopper is aware more than anyone else of the importance of the clean sheet and the signal it sends out to opponents. However, he revealed that while the London side had been in a decent form, they had not been able to stop some of the goals in
recent fixtures. The http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Czech-Republic-c2882 international refused to pass the blame on anyone, admitting some goals were too hard to stop.
He admitted:
“It's always better when you finish off the games with a clean sheet.
We had a little unfortunate run without having a clean sheet but we've played well, we keep winning three points, which is the main target.”
Unlike most sides, Cech said the Blues were not the type of team who waited for the game to finish after scoring a few goals. Instead, according to the http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Chelsea-c38786 number one, Andre Villas-Boas’ men looked to kill of the game, to make sure the opposition did
not have a chance to make a comeback. In that sense, Cech was satisfied with his side’s winning mentality and performance.
Cech continued:
“We are not waiting for the game to finish. We want to kill the game off and maybe this is the reason maybe why sometimes at the end of the games, when you want to score more goals, something like this happens.”
Speaking ahead of the UEFA Champions League Group E clash against KRC Genk, Cech was certain his side would have no trouble qualifying to the next stage. Indeed, the Blues have a perfect record in the early stages of the European competitions. The Blues
will host Genk tonight, Wednesday, 19 October 2011 at Stamford Bridge before travelling to Cristal Arena in November.
The Blues stopper claimed:
“With two victories, we will qualify for the next round.”
