Following speculation on his future, Chelsea striker Didier Drogba admitted he had not yet decided on his future and would reach a conclusion at the end of the season. The 33-year-old is contracted to the Blues until the end of the 2012 season but could
be facing a Stamford Bridge exit sooner than later.
In fact, Didier Drogba could very well be leaving in the summer. The Ivory Coast International is into his seventh season with Chelsea but has recently not been happy at the club. However, he revealed he would wait until the summer to make a decision.
The Blues hit-man said he would hold discussions with the club over a possible contract extension. While talking to the reporters, Drogba said, “It will be very interesting to see what happens in May. Then we can sit and speak about it and have a coffee.”
Since his arrival in 2004 from Marseille for a fee of £24 million, Drogba has been indispensable for the Blues. The fact that he was essential in their back-to-back Premier League titles made him one of the most important players at the club.
He arrived during the reign of Jose Mourinho and has stayed through Avram Grant, Luiz Felipe Scolari, Guus Hiddink and now Carlo Ancelotti. He did express his desire to leave after the sudden departure of Mourinho, but stayed and maintained his excellent
form.
However, his future at the club came under speculation with the £50 million arrival of 26-year-old striker http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Liverpool-c39809 striker is rumored to be the replacement for Drogba, which means the Blues
no longer require his services.
Drogba admitted that it was initially difficult for him to get used to the arrival of Torres but said he was getting used to it. He said, "It wasn't easy the first week but that's normal. Today, I know that we're doing this for the best of the team. The
team is more competitive.”
The Ivorian revealed the arrival of Torres had made the team more competitive, which he believed would get results for the Blues. Ancelotti has Didier Drogba, http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Salomon-Kalou-c32266 at his disposal, giving him a lot of choice when
it comes to team selection.
Drogba was certain the access of striking force would be beneficial for Chelsea, he continued, “We have a lot of strikers but I can't complain, I'm not the only one. I think it's good for the team. A team like Chelsea must have a lot of players to achieve
a lot in a year.”
The Ivory Coast skipper said he understood Ancelotti’s decision to rotate the squad, which saw him start against FC Copenhagen in the Champions League, with Torres on the bench. He added, “Communication is important - communication is what makes a player
feel profitable in every situation.”
It would be a pity to see Drogba leave in the summer because of lack of first team football. The striker has been exceptional for the club and even though he is past his prime, he still has a lot to offer. In 291 appearances for the Blues, Drogba has scored
an impressive 141 times, winning the Golden boot twice in 2007 and 2010.
