Chelsea striker http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Fernando-Torres-c13707 grateful for the support, expects Valencia clash to be tough
Chelsea striker Fernando Torres thanked the Blues’ supporters for their continued support for him despite his poor start for the London club. The 27-year-old Spaniard joined http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Chelsea-c38786 in the January transfer window of last season from Premier League rivals
for a record breaking fee of £50 million.
However, Torres did not quite live up to the record breaking fee Chelsea paid for him, only scoring three goals in 25 appearances in all competitions since arriving at Stamford Bridge. Recently though, Torres has shown improvement.
The striker does not only have an eye for goal, he is brilliant at setting them up to. The arrival of Juan Mata has seen Torres develop into the player he was at Atletico Madrid, where he went on to become the youngest captain after some top class performance.
Torres revealed that while it was easier for fans to support a player who was regularly scoring goals, it was not as easy to support a player who was having trouble finding the back of the net. The former Reds hit-man was grateful for the Chelsea supporters
who had shown him unconditional support during his first six months at the club.
Torres said in an interview:
“Obviously, when you are doing great, scoring goals from the first day and doing good performances, it's easy for the fans to love and support you."
But the first six months for me at Chelsea have been very, very difficult and I have been struggling, and I have always had the support of the fans.”
In the fixture against Swansea City last weekend, Torres scored the opening goal for his side and just moments later was sent off for a foul. This was Torres’ first red card in the English Premier League, which brought a premature end to a terrific performance.
The player himself admitted the referee had rightfully shown him a red card and insisted his intentions had not been to hurt Gower, the Swansea midfielder. Torres revealed he was disappointed at having to leave his side with ten men for the remainder of
the game but was pleased with the 4-1 win.
He said:
“It is the first time I have received a red card in the Premier League and I hope it is the last one.
It was really disappointing, especially because the team had to play with 10 men for a long time.”
While Torres will miss the next three Premier League fixtures, he will available for the trip to http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Valencia-c40863 for the UEFA Champions League Group E fixture. The Spaniard admitted he expected the match against Valencia to be very tough.
Torres continued:
“They are a great team and we know that they are ready for us. It's going to be very, very tough.”
