Chelsea striker http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Salomon-Kalou-c32266 sets his sights on UEFA Champions League title
http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Chelsea-c38786 striker Salomon Kalou believes that the Blues can lift the UEFA Champions League trophy in the ongoing 2010-11 season.
Kalou claims that the squad has set its sights on the final at Wembley, and will give it their all to go all the way in the tournament this time around.
Chelsea have won almost every honour an English club can win, but the Blues are yet to get their hands on a Champions League trophy. They came agonizingly close in 2008, only to lose out in the final to archrivals Manchester United.
Owner Roman Abramovich is so desperate to see his side win the coveted title that he is willing to spare no expense to help them achieve it. The 50-million-pound signing of http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Fernando-Torres-c13707 in the January 2011 transfer window was reportedly made to help Chelsea
reach that Champions League milestone.
Things are going Chelsea’s way so far. The Blues have one foot in the quarterfinals of the competition thanks to a 2-0 away win over FC Copenhagen in the first leg of their Champions League round of 16 clash.
With the club in such a strong position, Chelsea striker Salomon Kalou believes this will be the season the Blues finally end their European curse.
Kalou said, “Copenhagen can be the turning point because going away and winning 2-0 is a great result. Now we have the second leg at home and we will try to make it good by winning again, then we can prepare for the next round peacefully.”
However, the Ivory Coast international warned his side not to take FC Copenhagen too lightly. Though Chelsea have a formidable two goal lead in the tie, Kalou believes that things can turn around in the blink of an eye. He urged his teammates not to become
complacent during the second leg at Stamford Bridge.
Speaking on the upcoming encounter, Kalou said, “A football match is never done, you play 90 minutes, so we have to be focused on that. If they reach this stage of the competition it means they're a good team, so we have to have respect for them and play
our usual game.”
Chelsea and FC Copenhagen will go head-to-head for the second leg of their Champions League Round of 16 encounter on Wednesday, 16 March, 2011.
