Reports reveal UEFA Champions League winners Chelsea are currently battling Real Madrid to sign Benfica midfielder http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Axel-Witsel-c7029.
According to sources, the Blues have made the 23-year-old their number one target in the summer transfer window. However, Real Madrid are not be expected to give up the Belgian star without a fight and are looking to fight the London side for his signature.
Chelsea were initially interested in signing Tottenham Hotspur midfielder http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Luka-Modric-c22857, but it seems unlikely that the Croatian will fulfil his dream of playing at Stamford Bridge. Modric was initially linked with Chelsea in the last summer transfer window.
However, then manager Harry Redknapp and club chairman Daniel Levy did not let the http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Croatia-c2879 international leave White Hart Lane. The Blues made various bids, with the last one more than anyone expected for Modric, a staggering 40 million pounds, but they
were all rejected.
Modric was even reported to have handed in a transfer request, which was rejected by the Spurs. While the move did not take place last summer, there is a slight possibility that it could go through in the current summer transfer window.
However, the Blues once again face competition for Modric, with the likes of Real Madrid and Manchester United interested in acquiring his services. It seems highly likely that http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Chelsea-c38786 and may let Modric join Manchester
United or Real Madrid.
This is why Chelsea have turned their attentions elsewhere, namely Axel Witsel. The http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Belgium-c2850 international began his career with Standard Liege when he was 17 years old in 2006. By the same time next year, he had managed to secure a place in the first team.
After 148 appearances for Standard Liege and 33 goals, Witsel joined Benfica on a five year deal in the summer transfer window of 2011. He managed to score five times in 48 appearances in all competitions and despite a successful run at the club is looking
for a fresh challenge.
Apparently the Chelsea prime transfer adviser Piet de Visser has had his sights set on Witsel since the youngster was at Standard Liege.
