English Premier League giants Chelsea are reportedly planning a bid worth as much as 4 million pounds for Luke Shaw, the 16-year-old Southampton defender.
Shaw has managed to attract top Premier League sides who are expected to compete with the Blues for the signature of the youngster. The fact that the Blues are interested in acquiring his services comes as a bit of surprise as Shaw is yet to make his debut
for the first team.
However, despite having made his debut for the senior team at Southampton, Shaw is already considered one of the brightest upcoming stars. Along with Chelsea, London rivals Arsenal are also in pursuit of the young left-back and will be hoping to beat the
Blues to him.
It is not surprising that Shaw has caught the eye of Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger, with the Frenchman known to spot talent early on. It was Wenger who signed a Southampton player six years ago for 12 million pounds, http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Theo-Walcott-c34873.
Walcott is now a first team player at http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/England-c749. In fact, his emergence as a top first team player has attracted interest from none other than Chelsea.
Southampton are currently unwilling to listen to offers for the 16-year-old and since the player himself is unable to sign a professional deal, a move will have to wait. Shaw has to be at least 17 years old to be able to decide his future without intervention
from the club.
However, it is not certain how Shaw feels about a move away to either http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Chelsea-c38786 or Arsenal. The youngster has not specified his wishes but might end up choosing the Gunners since there would appear to be a better chance of regular football at the Emirates
Stadium.
At Chelsea, Shaw would have to compete with the likes of http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Ashley-Cole-c6809 and Ryan Bertrand and it is highly unlikely he will be selected ahead of them. Whatever his decision in the future, it does not seem like he will be guaranteed regular first team football
at Southampton this season.
